National Center for Biotechnology Information
Has many useful databases including Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man, the Molecular Modeling Database (3D molecular structure information), and Entrez. Entrez offers powerful options to perform Medline queries and retrieves citations with built-in links to the other NCBI databases. Entrez is my prefered tool for literature searches. The NCBI site also provides some tools, such as Blast (for protien sequence similarity searches) and BankIt (for submission of sequences).
Molecular Biology Workbench
A powerful tool for the analysis of DNA and protein sequences. The workbench was developed by the Computational Biology Group at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Tree of Life
A compilation of phylogenetic relationships and characteristics of organisms. The project is managed by David R. Maddison and Wayne P. Maddison at the University of Arizona.
